Understanding the benchmark
What does this index mean?
The Nasdaq Composite combines eligible stocks listed on the Nasdaq exchange. It is weighted by market capitalization and includes businesses from several industries and countries.
Why should I care?
Technology and growth-oriented businesses can have substantial influence, making it useful for understanding that part of stock-market performance. The Nasdaq-100 is a different, narrower index.
What it leaves out.
An exchange listing is not an asset-allocation plan. Owning several funds with Nasdaq exposure can still mean repeated exposure to the same large businesses.
